A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Environmental Resources Research Department of the National Institute of Environmental Research,  Republic of korea and Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Genoa, Italy on sustainable monitoring of the chemical pollution in Antarctic environment.


Dr. Jung-Keun Oh from the National Environmental Specimen Bank of South Korea is visiting us for 12 months in the context of the project “Joint Research Activity between Korean and Italian ESBs: Retrospective monitoring of chemicals and sustainable sample management in Antarctica”


Anthropogenic microparticles were found for the first time in specimens of Trematomus
bernacchii
collected in 1998 in the Ross Sea (Antarctica) and stored in the Antarctic Environmental
Specimen Bank

The XXXVIII Italian Expedition to Antarctica will start on October 2022 and various activities related to BCAA will be carried out, such as the collection of marine organisms at Terra Nova Bay.


The International Worshop "Act now – Legacy and Emerging Contaminants in Polar Regions" hosted by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum will be online on 25th and 26th Jannuary 2022.
